synopsis

The Oligor Brothers are two young men who an closed themselves in a basement for three years to create a world of marionettes and mechanical gadgets, all made from recycled materials.

With no prior experience, they entered into the process of creation where they blurred the lines of reality and fiction. Isolated in their own world, they went about creating a show, which at first they only performed to close friends in their basement but which has now been brought to the surface, and is now showing in various theatres Existing within a small scale structure, facilitating it's transport to different cities and towns. The piece is entitled "The Trials and Tribulations of Virginia" and we have followed them to Barcelona, Valencia, and Berlin, gathering the opinions of viewers and recording their reactions during the performances.

This documentary gives testimony to their process of creation: constructing gadgets to tell a story, which in turn have a story to tell. The performance brought forth by The Oligor Brothers is more than just child's play, it's a play of mirrors that brings life to these objects which have a story to tell. And it is because of this that the film is more than a mere accompaniment and reveals its own story: it takes us through a journey that from the seduction of the apparently simple, permits the opening of communication barriers and allows one to jump over the retaining wall. But is there another side to this story?...that is to be discovered at the end of the adventure? The reality and fiction in life and in art, transports us through the permanent tightrope walk of an acrobat.
